This beautiful 19th century framed hand-colored engraving is entitled "St. Michael's Mount, Cornwall" by J. Saddler after an original painting by the British artist Myles Birket Foster. It was published by Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Company in London in 1876 in Picturesque Europe. This is a very attractive view of St. Michael's Mount, which is a tidal island located in Mount's Bay, Cornwall, England. It is a popular tourist attraction and a historic site with a rich history that spans many centuries. The island is known for its dramatic setting and its medieval castle and priory. The scene depicts the imposing rocky island with its castle and priory perched on top. The castle, known as St. Michael's Mount Castle, was originally a monastery built in the 12th century and later fortified in the 16th century. The priory, dedicated to St. Michael, dates back to the 12th century and was an important pilgrimage site in the Middle Ages.

The artwork showcases the rugged beauty of the island in the background, with the sea pounding the beach in the foreground. There are people on the beach, along with a dog running and men hauling a large rowboat out of the turf onto the beach.

This colorful 19th century engraving is presented in a gold-colored wood frame and a double mat, cream-colored outer mat and a thin black inner mat. The frame measures 14.38" high, 17.88" wide and 1.5" deep. The engraving, frame and mat are in excellent condition.

Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899) was a British artist in Victorian period. He was a watercolor painter, an engraver and a book illustrator, whose illustrations are found in several books by William Wordsworth.
