The lithograph is printed on a tan paper and is presented in a black wood frame with a light grey mat. There is a horizontal fold in the upper third and mild wrinkling in the corners. There are small frame abrasions and scratches.
James Thurber (1894-1961) was an American cartoonist, journalist, author, humorist, and playwright. Many of his cartoons and short stories were published in the New Yorker magazine. Movies such as "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and the "Catbird Seat" were based on his creations. The Thurber Prize for American humor was established in his name in 1997.
The Franklin Simon department store was based in New York and focused on women's fashions, but also sold boys, girls and infant apparel. There were 42 stores when it closed in 1979.
